I hope this isn't true. I want the only way out of retro design to be sudden and total abandonment of retro design.

not too far off from the current Mustang. The older "renderings" I've seen online were the new Ford Falcon in the Australian market. Still a good car though, RWD, V8, manual box..

I'm not sure I'd call that retro.
Sure, it is an update on a retro design, but there is very little that takes obvious cues from the past. I think the only thing is the big grill, but more placement than shape, the shape is very similar to other offerings by Ford right now.
